BACKGROUND HEADLINES: Meet key players linked to the World Economic Forum.

As Senator for South Australia Alex Antic warned Parliament last year 2021, the WEF might lobby on issues such as climate change, so-called systemic racism and sexism and creating an online digital identity.

However, “closer inspection reveals the World Economic Forum is an anti-capitalist, anti-free market organisation that seeks to subvert Western values and political processes”.

Over 20 Australians have completed the WEF’s Young Global Leaders program.

Dozens more have attended Davos summits and have made key contributions to WEF policies and initiatives.

Today we continue our series of biographies on key people linked to Klaus Schwab’s World Economic Forum (WEF) that you may not have ever heard of but that hold considerable sway in our society.

Introducing ‘body architect’ Lucy McRae

Transhumanism is a perennial fixation of Klaus Schwab and his World Economic Forum (WEF).

Some 90 articles appear on the WEF website under the agenda item, ‘Human Enhancement’.

A ‘fourth industrial revolution’ is the term Schwab has popularised to spread his utopian ideas, which he hopes will lead to “a fusion of our physical, digital and biological identity”.

While classic dystopian tales like The Matrix, Minority Report, Brave New World and That Hideous Strength are fictional, Schwab apparently wants to make them fact. For benevolent ends, of course.

No wonder the World Economic Forum is drawn to Australians like Lucy McRae, a self-styled ‘body architect’ and ‘science fiction artist’.

Part of the Young Global Leaders class of 2018, McRae “encourages scientific conversation around the slipperiness of where science and technology meet the body,” the WEF website boasts.

McRae trained in classical ballet and interior design in Melbourne before she began working for Philips Design in the Netherlands and inventing ‘wearable technologies’.

Her break-out creations include electronic tattoos implanted in the skin that change by touch, and a perfume that excretes from the human skin after being swallowed as lipid-based pills that “could change the way we breed”.

Among McRae’s clients are global brands like Intel, Vogue, Levi’s, Mini and Unilever.

She has held exhibitions at museums, film festivals and institutes like MIT and NASA.

McRae has spoken at Wired and TED, and is a visiting professor at SCI_Arc in Los Angeles.

At last year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, McRae presented Heavy Duty Love, a cushioned machine designed to “compensate for a lack of human contact in early life” and offering “lab-grown humans a womb experience”.

Yes. McRae believes that humans will be grown in laboratories in the near future.

The project was accompanied by a range of garments whose care label read “designed for gene-edited or lab-grown babies”.

McRae has also exhibited Compression Cradle, a machine that “affectionately squeezes the body” in preparation “for a future that assumes a lack of human touch”.

Another of McRae’s exhibitions was Solitary Survival Raft, an inflatable device inspired by COVID-era lockdowns that might help condition the human body for lengthy, lonesome space travel.

Lucy McRae’s creations are eerie, speculative, artsy and futuristic. But she takes herself very seriously.

As one motto on McRae’s website declares, “We are going to have a revolution of what it means to be human.”

Klaus Schwab concurs.

In an article on his WEF website, Schwab echoes McRae’s declaration, saying: “The Fourth Industrial Revolution, finally, will change not only what we do but also who we are.”

Or perhaps she is echoing him.
