Victorian shadow Police Minister David Southwick says the opposition hopes to convince Labor Party members to realise Daniel Andrews is “taking a sledgehammer to a nail” on COVID and to vote no confidence in him.
The Victorian Opposition will move a bill of no confidence in the premier citing his overreaction to the state’s second wave due to failures in hotel quarantine and contact tracing.
“We need to keep the pressure up, and hopefully the Labor Party will understand that Daniel Andrews is a liability to them,” Mr Southwick told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Mr Southwick said the premier is not easing up on his restrictions because he “wants to blame all Victorians for his mess”.
“Daniel Andrews isn’t accepting responsibility for anything, he’s doubling down,” he said.
“As we’re coming down in terms of numbers, he wants to increase the powers to give authorised officers the opportunity to detain people, to arrest people, to kick in people’s doors.
“Daniel Andrews has taken a sledgehammer to a nail when it comes to managing COVID.
“He’s failed at every single hurdle here.”
