2.5 % Pay Rise W.T.F. Try A COVID-19 ‘Pay Cut’
Remarks: Adoni Media Managing Director Leisa Goddard says Annastacia Palaszczuk has been far too “quick to forget” the plight of the unemployed as the Premier prepares to increase the wages of public servants. The Australian is reporting “Queensland’s 224,000 state public servants are set to receive pay rises totalling more than three per cent as others in the workforce endure static income levels, wage cuts, reduced hours, unpaid stand-down or lose jobs because of the economic impact of the coronavirus”.
According to Ms Goddard, “there is already some debate about what cost-cutting measures should be put in place” in a bid to reduce the wages of public servants.
Sky News host Peter Gleeson said public servants should be “voluntarily saying we’ll take a 10 per cent pay cut”.
Mr Gleeson said it was “appalling” that these “fat cats are sitting there putting their hand out for another 2.5 per cent” while hundreds of thousands of Australians are being laid off.
“If Annastacia Palaszczuk signs off on a 2.5 per cent increase in the corpulent public sector of Queensland on July 1, that will be her economic and political suicide note to the good folk of Queensland on October 31,” he said.
